A Year Full of Date Nights

Maybe a little late but better late than never.  My beautiful wife Carly gave me a wonderful gift for my birthday.  She gave me a jar of popsicle sticks!  These amazing sticks have date ideas written on each one and every week we are going to pull one out and enjoy and evening together.  I love the idea and I haven't been poking through them to see what they say so every week will be a new surprise.

The first one that I pulled out was a cooking challenge.  We had received a Chinese cookbook from my grandparents as well as Chinese spices and had yet to use them.  This was a perfect way to start out our date nights.  Grabbing the cookbook we thumbed through the pages looking for something simple yet delicious that wouldn't require a lot of foreign ingredients.  We chose chicken chow mein though we didn't have any peanut oil or light soy sauce or any of the other specialty oils and soy sauces.

What we did have, however, was normal soy sauce and normal cooking oil and we just used that.  The meal turned out great.  The Chinese spices gave the chicken a really good flavor and the noodles and vegetables were cooked really well.  It was so good in fact that I will probably be making it again tonight or tomorrow night for dinner.  We made the dish a couple of weeks ago but it really is good.  The book is Ching's Everyday Easy Chinese.

First make it possible.  Then make it beautiful.  Then make it fast.
